INSPIRE MOORE WINERY
Naples, Finger Lakes, New York  -  Founded in 2004

Walking into Inspire Moore’s tasting room, the first thing you see is a huge painting of John Lennon. With wines named “Change”, “Peace”, “Love” and “Joy”, it’s obvious that Tim and Diane Moore’s influences run a little deeper than the traditional wine industry.  The Moore’s are originally from California and first met at the University of California-Davis where Tim was studying Viticulture and Oenology and Diane was into International Relations. Tim would later study at the Klosterneuburg Institute of Wine in Austria before settling down with Constellation Brands (which is one of the largest wine companies in the world.)  But Tim and Diane’s dream was to own their own winery and eventually found a gorgeous property in historic in the historic village of Naples that sits at the south end of Lake Canandaigua in the Finger Lakes region. The Carriage House and barn were both built in 1865 and overlook the Naples Valley.

John Lennon’s song “Imagine” was the inspiration as Diane explains; “We realized without even knowing it that the winery is so much along the lines of his song.” The singer’s call for peace, she adds, “is our belief and what we’d like to pass on to the world." What sets Inspire Moore apart from other wineries in the region, however, is their dedication to the environment and sustainable growing practices. The Moores make it a point to buy grapes from local growers who also practice sustainable growth and this dedication to conservation doesn't stop there. In fact, the entire philosophy behind the Inspire Moore product is one of conservation and forward thinking from their reuse of old buildings, to the hand-printed wine labels that use soy-based, organic inks.  As their website states, "Inspire Moore is a winery that seeks to embody the true characteristics of the vineyards in which the wine is developed, to express the true passion and artistry of the farmers who cultivate the flavors.  Our wines are made in the vineyard, our business is sustainability.  It starts in the vineyard, where sustainable farming practices lay the foundation and flows through the tasting room where recycled materials build the framework of our philosophy."

The village of Naples had a thriving winery community before the start of Prohibition that really reflected the Italian heritage of the local immigrants who moved here. In fact the Inspire Moore Vineyards is the first winery to open in Naples since Prohibition. And it turns out that Tim Moore is a pretty darn good winemaker as well. Moore’s European training really shows in both his red and white wines.  The Inspire Moore Rieslings are of course superb quality; “Joy” is the dry Reisling that is surprisingly soft and spicy for being bone dry, and the “Love” Semi-Dry Riesling is the winery’s biggest selling wine. “Peace” is the Alsace styled Pinot Gris that is quite rich with fresh, crisp peachy apple fruit.  And there are three stunning red wines in the portfolio that in a short time have gained a superb reputation in the region; The Blaufrankisch has fast become a Finger Lakes Benchmark with it’s luscious, spicy red berry fruit and the Cabernet Franc (Wisdom) and Red Blend (Truth) are consistently rich and layered with black fruits. A winery to keep an eye on...
